im happy, happier i guess.
so yeah. here's some new and exciting stuff.
--------------------
bound to be back.
you're just too sweet
to get out of my mind
like a hair a split four ways
ain't you just so fine
but tomorrows on its way
rollin' round the bend
like a black cat creepin'
down a long old crooked fence
spittin' fire and breathin' smoke out the stack
if i ain't here when tomorrow comes girl
i'm bound to be back
so keep your head up darlin'
blonde strands hanging down
prettiest in the morning
'bout the sweetest thing i've found
but tomorrows on its way
rollin' round the bend
like a black cat creepin'
down an old crooked fence
spittin' fire and breathin' smoke out the stack
if i ain't here when tomorrow comes girl
i'm bound to be back
cause you're just too sweet
to get out of my mind
---------------------
so theres that.
and heres this....
i wrote this poem after an incident i had with a pear.
you made such a mess
of all my little things
my crackerjack compasses
and my belt buckles and rings
thinking bout it now
just'a looking back
i shouldn't have put
that little pear into my little old backpack
messy little thing
covered the contents of my sack
i ain't never puttin' no more pears
into my old backpack

fall update.
Well, it has been quite an eventful week / weekend.
Birmingham, Alabama descended on Philadelphia in full force from saturday until
tuesday. Had a house party / show at my place , where my old band Arkadelphia played as well as
some good buddies from bham 13 Ghosts and Vulture Whale. I opened the show playing two brand new songs
(I'll post the lyrics at the bottom as I haven't done that on here yet.) It was also my first solo show ever. I was
Nervous but it worked out well with thanks to the incredible Lee Bains backing me up on electric guitar and vocals. Needless
to say we proceded to get very very wild afterwards.
My two new songs are right here the first one is about Birmingham, Alabama and the second one is about a girl.
Very original material there.
My Hometown
staring at the ground
without a sound
no use looking 'round
no one to be found
my hometown
myhometown
shes still waiting there
she ain't goin' nowhere
railroad spike through her feet
when she tried to leave
my hometown
my hometown
what are you gonna do boy?
bout settling down
can't just hang around
staring at the ground
my hometown
my hometown
-------------------
Midwestern Rose
you run free
ain't to be tamed
any man who tries to take that away
oughta be ashamed
where are you off to now?
running with the river
i'm on bended knee
prayin' to the lord
that river runs you into me
'cause i want you sweet thing
youre the prettiest thing to ever come out of ohio
and i'd do anything to hold you tight
wish you'd settle down and blossom slow
but there you go
my midwestern rose
your'e running round
figure you oughta know
theres a place inside my heart
where we both could grow
i hope you'll come around
i hope youll come around
youre the prettiest thing to ever come out of ohio
and i'd dp anything to hold you tight
wish you'd settle down and blossom slow
but there you go
my midwestern rose

don't call him baby
it's probably a better call
to spend your time with someone
who'll give you all
the things i never would
im spendin my last dime
and hanging on this line
just to wake you up and say
'i'd like to see you sometime'
this whiskey in a styrofoam cup
and a guitar on my lap got me thinking
bout calling you up
and tryin' to get you back
but you're better off with him
or any other man
who'll do for you
all he can
and it ain't my place
to ask you to save me
call him whenever you want
but don't you ever call him baby
call him whenever you want
but don't you ever call him baby
to spend your time with someone
who'll give you all
the things i never would
im spendin my last dime

grandaddy
wish i could've known you now
'cause i might've understood
the way you saw the world
and always tried to do the best you could
i wonder if you got that old time feelin'
deep in your chest like it is in mine
that made you ramble around
this 'ol mason-dixon land
and i think i'd have done the same
when the big one came round
fight for my country with a flute in my hand
proud as ever in the navy band stand
when you made my daddy
you made me too and the lord made us three
for to do the best we can
you always did and its
what made you a man
i choked back tears
when they laid you in the ground
stars and stripes draped across
that heartwood pine
six feet under where im standin now
with my grandaddy on my mind
'cause i might've understood
the way you saw the world
and always tried to do the best you could
i wonder if you got that old time feelin'
deep in your chest like it is in mine
that made you ramble around

for tonight
sinking in this seat
my gut ain't feelin' too right
what were about to do
is only gonna feel good tonight
ain't spoke your name in months
that didn't come without a fight
if it feels good in the dark
bet it hurts like hell in the mornin' light
let's shame the devil girl
and just tell the truth
ain't neither on of us thinkin'
'bout what were 'bout to do
that sun'll burn my eyes
as i'm slippin' on my boots and out the door
well spend a couple of days hurtin'
and couple more wonderin' what for
my gut ain't feelin' too right
what were about to do
is only gonna feel good tonight
ain't spoke your name in months
that didn't come without a fight
if it feels good in the dark
bet it hurts like hell in the mornin' light

stride
i know it can be hard
to pull yourself up
when no ones around.
drag your weary bones
across the ground
to the steps of that house
i've torn apart,
kicked holes in the wall
tore the shutters off
your heart.
i know you'll get it
get on up and walk,
baby steps at first
then them long pretty strides
the kind that had me thinkin'
i could spend a lifetime lookin' in those eyes.
you're gonna walk with another
side by side with him i know,
'cause i ain' t the only one
and the sun don't come up
just to hear me crow.
i ain't the only one
i ain't the only one
darlin',
i aint' the only one
to pull yourself up
when no ones around.
drag your weary bones
across the ground
to the steps of that house
i've torn apart,
kicked holes in the wall
tore the shutters off
your heart.
i know you'll get it

i ain't the only one
darlin',
i aint' the only one
